Oe Kenzaburo

There was a long line of people in front of the bookstore
in Ikebukuro when I was on my way to the station today.
I glanced at the people, wondering if
what those people were waiting for there.
Soon figured that there was someone famous,
the people were standing in line for getting the autograph
from the person.

I stopped for a second, moved slightly,
looked at near the head of the line.

There was a man in a nice white shirt with a big black glasses-

Kenzaburo Oe(大江健三郎)

Kenzaburo Oe is a famous Japanese writer
who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1994.
He was sitting properly there,
busy with autographing his books
to every people who was in the line.
He looked very polite, which was my large impression for him.

Maybe I should have bought his book?
Should have asked his autgraph?

Even though I didn't buy his book there,
I decided to read his latest book "Suishi" sometime soon.

He is a person who is fully aware of political and
social issues of the world,active for giving his lectures
and speeches in many countries.
I saw his speeches a couple of times on Internet.
Also, He often shares his ideas and beliefs with his friends,
Edward W. Said and Noam Chomsky.

FREE CAFE

Let me introduce one of the cafes in Tokyo to you all...
There is a cafe called "Free cafe" in Toranomon,Tokyo,
the cafe is really interesting!

They have Coffee, Tea, Orange juice, some Senbei...(rice crackers)

mmm...? Sounds normal,huh?

however...

actually...

surprisingly...


They are all FREE!!!!!(REAL FREE cafe)

P.S.

I asked the staff where I should pay for the tea at the cafe.
I totally didn't get the concept of the shop first;P

私はそんな親切すぎるカフェがあるなんて
知らなかったので、
レジを探して　店内ウロウロ...
終いには店員さんにレジはどこか聞いてしまいました。（恥）

フリーカフェはおせんべいの老舗、播磨屋さんが
広報活動＋ユニークなボランティア活動の一環として
運営なさっているそうです。
私は虎ノ門のフリーカフェに行きましたが、
他に銀座にもあるようです。
みなさんもお時間がある時に是非行ってみてくださいね。

I got "Omikuji" at a shrine today.
"Omikuji" is a fortune slip you can get at shrine.
Omikuji tells you about your fortunes of this year,
and if your luck this year is
"great","good","not so good", or "bad".
(including some tips about your fortunes)

And then..My luck for this year is...

"Great"(大吉）
yay!

I know I am a simple girl...but couldn't help smiling;P
It said also,
"You could be happy by cooperating with people,helping each other."

Yes, helping people, supporting each other,encouraging each other..
we can grow up together.

That's exactly what I want;)

おせんべい

（少年）　「ばあちゃん！おせんべい作ってるよ！」



この少年の声に、

彼のばあちゃんでもない私が反応して振り向くと、

そこには昔ながらの焼き方でお煎餅を焼く職人さん達の姿。

私も醤油の香ばしいにおいにつられ（You must be a dog..)

その少年ばりの近さでしばらくその場に立ち尽くし、

職人さん達とそのおいしそうなお煎餅に釘付けでした。



こういうのあんまり東京では見られなくなってきちゃったけど、


大切にしていきたいなーっ、残していってほしいなーっ


って思います。
